Once again, Marshal Marion Daniels calls on Ruben Beeler for help in righting a terrible wrong. Cecil Man-Bear, one of Marion’s old friends, has been crippled, his wife killed, and his daughter stolen by a half-breed. Marion and Ruben take to a trail that leads them far into the Sioux reservation of the Dakota Territory in pursuit of a man called Kills-Many and his band of renegades. With the help of Homer Poteet and an old Indian fighter named Owney Furnish, they make their way into dangerous country on a mission to rescue the daughter and make sure justice is served. It’s a long and hazardous ride on the Ogallala Trail.

I like this series of books. However the Author made fun of the Army. The Army of this time period was put in a difficult position by Washington. A massive area to cover with settlers calling upon Washington to protect them from the Native population raping and slaughtering them. The Author also makes fun of those 276 Soldiers who died with Custer. Say what you will of Colonel Custer, but do not make light of those men who followed orders and died in the line of duty. I do enjoy the characters and stories of this series but I was unhappy with some of the Author's obvious liberal sentiments....

Ogallala Trail the Trail series Book 5 edition by David R Lewis Ulva Eldridge Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I have not read better developed or more likable characters ever, in any genre. I would read one of these with minimal or no antagonist/crisis just because I love the characters. Tip Start reading from book one so you fully understand the characters and their relationships.
Really like how the characters have come to life throughout the series. I enjoy the Rube character and the Marshall is one of my all time favorites. Rubs ability to get his killing done when necessary without nay bobbing around is refreshing for these types of stories. Killdeer Trail is next.
David Lewis, this book like the 4 previous ones are outstanding, great and fantastic. It has everything that readers want in a book. It tells a great story has humour and is written like you are really there. Once I start it is hard to put it down. I am hooked on your books.
I have read the Trail series by Mr Lewis and the only fault that I have is too many pages about the food everyone eats. Everyday there is at least one page devoted to what Rube has for breakfast, lunch and dinner. In addition to what purchases he makes at the general store and what he feed his horse.
I read the entire series and loved them. This author is authentic and a humorous, as well. I started with Book 1 and went through the series. I paid about $15.00 for all the books...none of them disappointed. You get to know the characters...great characters...and get a feel for the old west and how people related to the times and events. I think anyone could enjoy the books as stand alone or in the series. This author is now one of my favs.
I thoroughly enjoyed the first four books of this series. This book, however, is mostly a tale of what the heros ate each day on a very long journey to kill the bad guys. Then, at the very end of the book the heros meet up with and quickly kill the bad guys in two pages and then go home in a page or so. This might be a book to skip in this series.
I almost abandoned Lewis' books when I started the first one, but initially, I thought it was illiterate writing. Then I decided to persevere and finish it. Somehow, I became totally addicted. This book continues his skillful story-weaving. His sense of wit and satire is amazing, and provides wonderful escape for the reader. It's always the very last thing I do before retiring in the evening, and I highly recommend his books for everyone who likes to read.
